Photokina and New Camera Announcements
Dick DeJong — September 17, 2012
--- The world's biggest camera show, Photokina opens this week and camera makers are announcing new models ranging from point and shoots like the Canon S110, to the mirrorless Panasonic GH3 to the full frame Canon 6D and Nikon D600.
--- While we wait for some of those cameras to be released, we are pitting a newcomer to the Mirrorless category, the Olympus E-M5 against our fave, the Sony NEX-5N.
--- Also posting soon, it's Sony's hot new RX100 premium pocket camera vs the Canon G1 X.
MORE CAMERA NEWS
--- Panasonic has released the DMC-FZ200 24x superzoom camera, a replacement for the highly popular FZ150. Will be arriving soon.
--- Panasonic has also released the DMC-LX7, finally replacing the LX5 premium compact.
NOKIA 41MP CAMERA PHONE
It is a departure for 2 Camera Guys to review a smartphone, but when we saw that Nokia squeezed a camera with 41MP sensor anda Zeiss lens into their 808 PureView phone, our ears pricked up. And rightfully so as you will read in Dick's review which has been posted.
IN THE WORKS.......
COMPACT SUPERZOOM CAMERA UPDATE
The very impressive Sony HX30V edges out the Panasonic ZS20 as the best compact superzoom camera on the market as far as pure picture quality is concerned. But the ZS20 is the faster of the two cameras, so if you routinely shoot a lot of action and need fast response, the ZS20 is still the top of the heap. This shootout will be updated with details shortly.
PREMIUM COMPACTS
Sony's RX100 has just hit the market, selling for $650. The somewhat larger but still compact Canon G1 X premium sells for $700. If you are spending that much, which is the best choice? Sarah is shooting them out, and results will be posted soon.
BEST PREMIUM SUPERZOOM CAMERAS
The Leica V-LUX 3 (24x zoom) and the Fujifilm X-S1 (26x zoom) are premium priced superzoom bridge cameras selling for $800. Though the Leica V-LUX 3 is also sold as the Panasonic FZ150 for a lot less money, the question remains-if you are going to spend $800 on a premium superzoom bridge, does the Fuji beat the Leica for the same money? And if the Leica is the winner, shouldn't you simply buy the Panasonic FZ150 instead and pocket the $400+ price difference? We will get this sorted out and add a new shootout category for premium superzooms.

You state: "Sony HX30V edges out the Panasonic ZS20 as the best compact superzoom camera on the market as far as pure picture quality is concerned."
Actually, the ZS20 was already pushed out (not just edged out) by the ZS15, which most reviewers agree has much better IQ. Newer is NOT necessarily better.
